Eggs have had bad press in recent years but eaten in moderation, they can be a fantastic food source for all of us and even more so for those who have undergone bariatric surgery.

Are you one of those people for whom eggs do not feature in your regular diet? Maybe it is time to rediscover the magical properties of one of our most simplest yet nutritional foods....

Did you know the humble chicken egg is the only food source (other than breastmilk) to contain all eight essential amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) required by adults? 

At only about 75 Kcal each, they are relatively low in calories and can be used in many early-stage post-op recipies. Eggs are often one of the first foods to be reintroduced at the pureed/sloppy stage after surgery. Scrambled eggs with extra milk or egg custard are sure ways to get protein into our diet. Protein, as we all know is crucial to our recovery post-op. Protein aids the repair of the surgery area.
